Korean Language Program

A Korean Language and Cultural Study Program for Foreigners and Overseas Koreans.
The objective of the program is to promote the learning of Korean language and culture, as well as to assist international students adapt to life in Korea.

This program is unique among Korean language programs offered elsewhere in Korea. KOREATECH, as the leader of specialized engineering education in Korea, offers language programs tailored to the practical needs of students planning to enter the Engineering College. Students admitted to an advanced level in the KOREATECH Korean Language program will be given the opportunity to learn the Korean language within a systematic curriculum that converges with lectures in the engineering fields, encompassing theory and practice, field study, among others. Finally, our Korean language program offers opportunity to acquire a high quality education and experience life at an institute of higher learning at relatively low expense.
Enrollment in our program will grant students part-time work opportunities on campus.

1. Introduction

Course Korean Language Course Engineering Class for Advanced students Special course for students in Korean Language Course
Class Hours
  • 4 quarters per year
  • 1 quarter: 10 weeks-200 hours, 09:00-13:00, Mon.-Fri.
2 times per week during the Korean Language Course
Eligibility Students must be foreigners or Overseas Koreans who are at least 18 years of age. (International students, Exchange students, Foreign staffs and Professors) Students wishing to major in Engineering, among students in the Advanced Level of Korean Language Course. Students who take the Korean Language Course in GEC

2. Distinct Features of the KOREATECH Korean Language Program

3. Student Benefits

  • Scholarship
    • The top student in a Korean Language class that has at least 5 students will receive 500,000 Won
  • Buddy Program
    • Sisterhood/brotherhood program with Korean students of KOREATECH
    • Korean language learning through regular meetings
    • Friendship with Korean Buddy students for the adaptation of studying in Korea and Korean culture
  • Eligibility for work-study program of KOREATECH
  • Student ID issued (used for borrowing books from the library and entering the gym, electronic cash)
  • Students who acquire Level 3 or higher in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) may be admitted immediately to the KOREATECH undergraduate school in the upcoming semester
  • Supplementary training for slow learners

4. Tuition & Dormitory Fee

  • Korean Language Course : KRW 1,300,000 Won per 1 Quarter(10 weeks)
  • Dormitory Fee : KRW 740,000 Won per 2 Quarter(20 weeks)
※ Tuition : D-4 visa applicants must apply for at least two semesters, and other visa holders can apply for one semester.
※ After transferring the money, forward the receipt to the university. The exceeding amount of the remittance will be transferred to the student's personal account in Korea. (the process may take 1 month)
※ The arrival schedule should be notified to the institute 2 weeks prior to arrival.
※ According to the National Health Insurance Act and the Enforcement Rules of the same Act, international students will be required to pay the applicable insurance premium 6 months after staying Korea from the day of arrival, as other registered foreigners who are local subscribers to the national health insurance.
※ All Korean Language course students will stay at the designated on-campus dormitory. Accommodation is the single room shared by 2 students. Room is furnished with all the comforts of a home including, a shower, study desks, comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi and International Kitchen
※ The above costs may vary depending on the circumstances.

Refund
  • Before Beginning of the semester : Refund 100% of the tuition
  • Before One-third of a Month’s Total Course Hours : Refund two-thirds of that particular month’s tuition
  • Before One-half of a Month’s Total Course Hours : Refund one-half of that particular month’s tuition
  • Withdrawal During The Second Half of a Semester : Non-refundable
※ The tuition and other expenses are non-refundable when the visa issuance is denied due to the submission of forged or false documents.
※ All of the bank fees occurred when refund is made is paid by applicants.

6. Application Process

Admission Eligibility

Students must be foreigners who are at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school.

※ Reference : Those who will remain in Korea with a visa other than student visa, members of multi-cultural families or permanent residents will need to contact the application office.

  • Payment of tuition

  • Issuance of regular admission notice & receipt of tuition payment

  • Application for visa issuance and granting of visa (through Korean consul or embassy)

  • Entry to Korea

  • Alien (foreigner) registration in Korea

7. Documents Required

All original documents must be submitted. Documents not in Korean or English must be translated into Korean or English and submitted with a notarized certificate.

1. Proof of Academic Degree (Academic Background): Choose between the following (1) and (2)
(1) Apostille proof of academic degree (academic background)
(2) Documents approved by the Korean consulate in the home country or by the home country’s consulate or embassy located in Korea
2. A copy of academic transcripts for the highest level of education received

3. A copy of passport
4. A copy of identification (student and both parents)
5. A certified copy of birth certificate (translated into English or Korean)
6. A certified copy of family register (including all family members)
 - In the event of a parent's divorce: a copy of the divorce decree (including the parent's name and date of birth)
 - In the event of a parent's death: a copy of the death certificate (including the parent's name and date of birth)
7. Color photo 1 (3.5cm × 4.5cm) (taken within the last three months)
8. A copy of a certificate of deposit balance of 10 million KRW (USD 8,000) or more in the name of the applicant or financial guarantor

(the certificate must be issued within 30 days from the date of visa application)
9. A 6-month transaction history from the applicant or financial guarantor
10. A copy of proof of employment from the financial guarantor (including income, work phone number, and address) or a business license and proof of property for individual businesses
11. Documents that present career experience after graduation (for those who have graduated)

※ Documents issued abroad must be submitted in their original form with Korean or English translation and notarization. (Exception: A photocopy of passport and ID can be submitted without translation and notarization)
※ Residents in Korea with F-1, F-2, F-4, E-2, and D-8 Visas need to contact the application office.
※ Additional documents may be requested for qualification examination.


8. Notice
  • If any information is false or if entry is obtained illegally, admission will be rejected or canceled.
  • All submitted documents will not be returned.
  • All matters after admission are in accordance with the university's rules and bylaws.
  • If the student wants to cancel the application before the start of semester, one can receive a full refund of the tuition fee. And if one wants to dropout after the start of semester, the tuition fee will be refunded according to the refund standard.
